Island Pond gave birth to a few prominent characters over time. Porter Hinman Dale was born in Island Pond on March 1, 1867. He ran for office and became a senator from Vermont on November 6, 1923, until the end of term on March 3, 1927, following the death of William P. Dillingham. Dale was reelected in 1926 and 1932, and served from November 7, 1923, until his death on October 6, 1933.

On July 28th, 1901, Rudy Vallee was born In Island Pond. He became a popular crooner, entertainer, and band leader. Vallee was called the “Vagabond Lover” and is considered as the first in a string of star singers such as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley. He returned to Island Pond In 1932, accompanied by his band throwing the biggest dance party Essex County had ever seen. He died on July 3, 1986.
